The roof is fabricated in Aluminium and clad with PVCu cappings to match the frames. It is glazed with 24mm double glazed sealed units to BS5713 of 4mm toughened glass to BS6206A, or multi-wall, structural polycarbonate.
Hardwood roofs are factory built prior to moulding, sanding and painting. The hardwood rafters are located into the eaves beam with dowels and then screwed. Glazing is secured with a choice of hardwood or maintenance-free aluminium cappings, colour coded to the building.
Conservatory walls and windows
Conservatory walls are glazed with 4mm toughened glass to BS6206A in 28mm double glazed sealed units to BS5713. They are fitted from the inside of the building for optimum security.
Each opening window is mounted on high security, anti-jemmy, friction-stay hinges. These are operated by push button release and key-lockable handles, which feature a second locking position to allow secure night ventilation.
Single and double French doors are equipped with Scorpion high security multi-point locking, incorporating a combination of cams and hook bolts to provide maximum security.
Hardwood frames are externally glazed with 24mm double glazed units. Casements are equipped with espagnolette and shoot bolt locking and stainless steel hinges. All handles are key lockable and feature a night vent locking position. Doors are fitted with high security multi-point locks incorporating hook bolts, cams, shoot bolts and deadbolts.
Neutral Plus sealed units have a transparent metallic coating that reflects heat from radiators or fires back into the room rather than allowing it to escape through the windows. At the same time, it allows free heat and light from the sun (known as passive solar heat gain) to pass through the glass, warming your home and further contributing to the energy efficiency of your windows. The space between the two panes of glass is filled with Argon gas instead of air to further enhance thermal and sound insulation, meaning unit achieves a U value of 1.2 W/m2K. Other benefits include less condensation because the inner surface of the glass stays warmer, reducing internal condensation and prolonging the life of your window and more comfortable rooms because improved thermal insulation means fewer cold spots and draughts near doors and windows.
Saint Gobain Bioclean Cool-Lite ST
These are energy-efficient self-cleaning sealed units with solar control properties. They combine Bioclean coating self cleaning glass on the outside, Cool-Lite ST solar control glass with a subtle and attractive bluish tint and Neutral Plus on the inside for greater energy efficiency for keeping rooms warm in winter and cool in summer. The result is that up to two-thirds of heat from the sun is reflected for cooler interiors, uncomfortable glare from the sun is reduced by over 50% whilst letting in lots of natural light, the need for manual cleaning is significantly reduced and there’s a 100% noise reduction compared to polycarbonate roofs.
Pilkington ‘Activ’ is an ordinary glass with a special coating on the outside that has a unique dual-action. Once exposed to daylight, the coating chemically reacts in two ways. Firstly, the coating reacts with ultra-violet rays from natural daylight to break down and disintegrate organic dirt. Secondly, rain water ‘sheets’ down the glass to wash the loosened dirt away.
Pilkington Activ Blue
Pilkington Activ Blue is specially designed for use in conservatory roofs.
The attractive blue glass combines the dual-action, self-cleaning properties of Pilkington Activ with solar control performance. Its unique blue colour helps keep internal temperatures cool while maintaining excellent light transmittance.
‘Sunguard’ glass is a unique high-tech roof glass with many performance features. This ‘smart glass’ has an invisible micro coating that keeps out up to 68% of solar heat but helps keep in up to 50% more internal heat from radiators.
An insulating glass on the inner leaf, and an Argon gas filling of the double glazed unit optimises the heat retention for winter use . Together, they offer a U value of 1.4 W/m 2K , an excellent energy performance rating.
Finally, an ‘easy-clean’ external surface allows dirt to run off with the rain for reduced cleaning periods.
